Graphene has clear benefits for electrodes Carbon

he latest promising application for graphene puts its transparency and very high conductivity to good use as a see-through electrode material for everything from flat screens to solar cells. Currently, indium tin oxide is the material of choice for transparent electrodes, but its continued use is problematic largely because of the Earth's limited resources of In. The search for new transparent materials with excellent conductivity is now a key goal in optoelectronics research.

Researchers from the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz, Germany have demonstrated that thin graphene-based films are a very good option [Wang et al., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. (2008) 47, 2990].

ZZ2S'lfP` “Graphene films were prepared with a new bottom-up chemical approach via thermal reaction of synthetic nanographene molecules of giant polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons,” Linjie Zhi explains. During this reaction, the giant molecules are cross-linked with each other and further fused into larger graphene sheets.

A8V+ucS:a.da X “The properties of the obtained graphene film include high conductivity, good transparency in both the visible and near-infrared regions, an ultrasmooth surface with tunable wettability, and high chemical and thermal stabilities,” adds Zhi.

The team prepared organic solar cells with a thin graphene film on quartz as the anode. The unoptimized graphene sheets work well and there is room for improving the solar cell efficiency by increasing the conductivity of the graphene film. The researchers believe transparent graphene electrodes could also be used in organic light-emitting diodes, flat-panel displays, and other optoelectronic devices.

Graphene films 应该比carbonnanotube films 在结构上具有一定的优势,但是graphene sheet估计在制备上没有tube film成熟,研究深入吧。
