Job description: The LIGO Team at the University of Mississippi invites applications for graduate studies leading to a Ph.D. degree.

The University of Mississippi is an active member of the NSF-funded Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO). The LIGO Team contributes to the LIGO project in the areas of data analysis, detector characterization, theory and source modeling of gravitational waves. Students may be required to work part-time at LIGO labs in Livingston, LA and/or Hanford, WA. Research Assistantships are available for motivated students. For more information, please see

The University of Mississippi is Mississippi's premier higher-education institution. The main campus is located in historic Oxford (Lafayette County), about a hour drive southeast of Memphis (TN) and four hours north of the LIGO lab in Livingston, LA. Oxford is home to Nobel Prize-winning novelist William Faulkner (1897-1962), and is a vibrant University town, filled with exclusive shops and galleries, fine restaurants, and historic landmarks. The University of Mississippi hosts an array of exciting athletic events, art programs, and exhibits year around. Parks and recreation centers that offer swimming, hiking, fishing, golf and other sports are common in Lafayette County and nearby counties.

Prospective students should send a pre-application to cavaglia@olemiss.edu. The application package must include Curriculum Vitae, copy of official transcripts, GRE scores, TOEFL scores (non-native English speaker) and names and postal/email addresses of three references. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
