A Post-Doctoral position at the University of Western Ontario, Canada, is available to study the neurobiological mechanisms of emotional learning and memory using in vivo electrophysiological recording techniques. We are presently studying mechanisms of neuronal plasticity underlying learning and memory during the opiate and nicotine addiction process and the functional interaction of cannabinoid and dopamine systems during the encoding of emotional information. (See Nature Neuroscience. 7:160-169, Journal of Neuroscience, 26:6458-6468; Journal of Neuroscience 28:8025-8033). Our research involves the use of single-unit extracellular and intracellular in vivo neuronal recordings, long-term potentiation, and multi-unit neuronal recordings in awake, behaving animals during drug reward and fear conditioning behavioural neuroscience experiments. Experience in neuronal electrophysiology is required for this position.
