PhD student position available

One Ph.D. student position is available for Spring 2009 at Dr. Xinyu Zhang’s group, in the Department of Polymer and Fiber Engineering at Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama, USA.

Current research interests of the group:

• Synthesis and characterization of conducting polymer nanotubes/nanofibers and composites with noble metals. Investigate their role in catalysis, capacitive energy and hydrogen storage
• Fundamental research in molecular self assembly using seeding methods
• Fabrication of individual polymer nanofiber/nanotube devices for chemical vapor or analyte sensors and field effect transistors
• Synthesis and characterization of biocompatible polymers for use as nanoparticulate drug carriers for controlled and targeted drug delivery
• Green approaches to polymer/metal and nanocarbon/metal catalysts for fuel cell applications
• Optically transparent, conducting films of carbon nanotubes on flexible substrates for device application, such as flexible display and organic solar cells

Requirements:

1. Self-motivated individual holding a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, or related disciplines
2. Passed TOEFL and GRE exams
3. Interests and skills in research labs is preferred
