Job description: The Materials Sciences Division of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) and the Materials Science and Engineering Department of UC Berkeley offer a joint postdoctoral appointment as part of a program to carry out structural analysis of biomolecular assemblies on multiple length scales.
The nanoscale organization of peptide-containing biomolecular materials in solution, in thin films and at interfaces will be investigated. The outcome of these studies will be a powerful new suite of characterization tools, along with critically important insights for the design of future materials through biomolecular self-assembly.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:
1) study the phase behavior of amphiphilic peptide-polymer conjugates in solution and in thin films, or
2) synthesize peptide-polymer conjugates using living free radical polymerization.
Qualifications:
• Recent Ph.D. in Polymer Sciences, peptide-polymer conjugate biomaterials or related field
• Experience in scattering techniques using synchrotron and neutron sources for structural characterization, especially in polymer thin films is highly desirable.
• Experience in peptide synthesis, de novo designed peptides and living free radical polymerization is preferred.
This is a one-year term appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds, and ongoing operational needs.
